1000 Books Before Kindergarten Club

For special events or programs check our Calendar of Events Page.

Welcome to 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten Club! This free program encourages you to read 1,000 books with your child before he or she enters school-a goal experts say children need to help them learn to read for themselves.

One of the best ways to encourage learning is to spend time sharing books every day. Reading together helps develop important pre-reading skills that provide a solid reading foundation-a key to school and learning success. Plus sharing stories together is fun!

Here are the easy steps for participation:

1. Read together

2. Mark the dot on your child’s log. If you read a book more than once, you can record it each time. Books read at library Story time, daycare or others also count.

3. When you finish 100 books, give your sheet to the librarian and

· Receive a sticker

· Receive a book

4. Repeat steps 1-3 and receive a different sticker and book at each level.

5. After finishing 1,000 books, your child

· Receives a sticker and a book

· Receives a  special prize

This club has no end date except your child’s going to school, so don’t feel rushed—just enjoy the experience! Take every change you have to read with your children, tell and talk about stories, say nursery rhymes, sing songs, and attend library programs. By reading just three stories a day you and your child will have read over 1,000 books in one year. You will also have shared many special moments along the way.

The library is a fun place featuring books to check out, DVD’s, free programs and great suggestions for what to read. Stop in often and talk to our friendly staff—we are here to help.

Happy Reading!

2020 Summer Reading Book Rules

For special events or programs check our Calendar of Events Page

Goals are:  Ages 2-13  1 HOUR per Week

Magazines, dictionaries, and cookbooks  do not count for your reading time.  You need to stay in your AR reading level or higher.  For any questions on the rules, ask a librarian.

Books need to be read during the time period of May 26 – July 10.  The first week’s prize will be given week starting June 1st.  Each weeks prize will be given out starting on the following Mondays.   Final folder entries need to be completed by 3 p.m. July 10.

Only books checked out from Danvers Township Library will be counted toward the weekly reading goal.  All time must be recorded into your folder by 11 a.m. Saturday.

When your time goal is met for the week, you will receive 1 goodie bag for that week after you have recorded your books into your folder and show it to the librarian.

For time off due to vacation, please make arrangements with the librarians.

Guessing Game Drawing:

When you meet your weekly time goal, you qualify to put your name and phone number into the GUESSING GAME DRAWING.  We will have a container filled with items.  The person with the closest guess will win the container and its contents.

Every 1 hour extra over your weekly goal will allow you an extra guess in the guessing box.

When you go over your WEEKLY READING GOAL by reading 1 hour extra, your name will be entered in the drawing, once a week only, for an additional prize.

Attendance at programs and events sponsored by the Danvers Township Library may be recorded through photographs or video.  These images may be used for Library promotional purposes or posted on the Library's website.  Please notify a Library staff member if you or your family members DO NOT want to photographed.

Essential Oils

For special events or programs check our Calendar of Events Page.

Danvers Library offers Essential Oils informational classes.  These are usually the 2nd Wednesday of each month from 11am to 12:30pm and the following Monday from 5pm to 6:30pm.

You can expect to learn in detail what certain oils can do for you and how to use them.  Occasionally there will also be a make and take that goes along with that current class or a seasonal make and take paper craft.
